My daughter needs an exam with 72-hour priority, but at Villa Sofia it can’t be done before 6 days.”
Yesterday, I went to the CUP (Booking Office) at Villa Sofia Hospital to schedule an urgent Angio CT scan for my daughter, with a 72-hour priority. Let me preface by saying that the diagnostic question is: “Triangular-shaped area with a base on the middle third of the diaphragm nnd,” in plain terms, a possible risk of ischemic condition. After long discussions and pleading, they almost reluctantly gave me the date of July 23rd, which is 6 days later.
Obviously, I am very angry and worried. But now I ask myself: if unfortunately, something goes wrong during these six days of waiting, considering that the primary care physician and specialists have advised the urgency of this exam to rule out ischemic risk, who will be held accountable for this failure? Of course, it’s always us parents who are left to see our daughter at risk, feeling powerless in the face of this cheap carelessness. In this blame-shifting game, where no one is willing to take responsibility.
Unfortunately, my daughter doesn’t have influential parents, politicians, or well-known people, but just ordinary parents without connections in healthcare, so no recommendations, just the bad luck of being ill and needing an exam. Does this mean she has to take more risks than others? There is so much talk about healthcare, but who do we turn to in these cases? When the staff dismissively and abruptly tells you that there’s nothing they can do? Where are the healthcare managers? How much does a doctor’s assessment of the urgency of an exam matter? But how long do you think you can keep fooling us?
I feel desperate and abandoned, and I feel like we could drown because no one is coming to our aid. Because only if I pay, can my daughter have the exam immediately, and what if I couldn’t afford it? Just an ordinary citizen of this decaying and inadequate Palermo.
